The Big Move to the world of Dim Sums.

My travels in South East Asia came to an end in August 2017 and the big move to Hong Kong became inevitable. However, I was never worried, Hong Kong Education Provider (HKEDU) made sure from the time I landed until the time I started a new job that it would all be okay. From airport transfers to finding an apartment, the help was never ending.

For the first two weeks it was training, where Maggie took us under her wing and Introduced us not only to the teaching world in Hong Kong but also to the world of Hong Kong; culture, food and how to navigate this crazy, amazing city. This was just the beginning.

The transition from the comforts of training to the new job could not have been easier. Maggie took us to school for the first time and introduced us to everyone, she made sure we knew where our office was and exactly what we would be doing. The first day of my new work was just moments away.

It took a few weeks to get into the swing of things, learning the do’s and don’ts of my new school and transforming from a tense awkward teacher to a energetic, bubbly teacher who could make the lessons enjoyable. It does not take long to realise that it is so much easier to be completely crazy and giving the children something to laugh at. With the help of my work colleague and roommate, we were able to really enjoy the work. We fell in love with each child. We taught K1, K2 and K3 (ages 3 to 5) and throughout the year watched them grow and improve in, not only our English class, but in all aspects of schooling.

To wrap up, from my first day in Hong Kong till the last day at this school, it has been nothing but positive. HKEDU made the transition smooth and my school made the job even more enjoyable then i could have imagined. It was not as frightening as I had first imagined, but instead it was most enjoyable and very rewarding.
